  • Leonel Fernández, president of the Dominican Republic, spoke at an event co-sponsored by CSIS's Americas Program and the Inter-American Dialogue. He discussed the achievements of the Dominican economy and addressed key challenges for the remainder of his term, including the implementation of effective social policies and the consolidation of democracy. President Fernández noted that the Dominican Republic was a possible alternative to Guatemala and Venezuela to occupy the seat at the United Nations Security Council.
