Let Clean Waters Flow: U.S. Leadership and Innovation Addressing the Global Water Crisis
- Date: Wednesday, Mar 25, 2009

Unsafe drinking water, poor hygiene, and lack of adequate sanitation kill more children worldwide than HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. At any given time, half of the world's hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from a water-related disease, and 1.4 million people die yearly from preventable diarrheal illness. But unlike many of the world's problems, this crisis can be solved.
Please join Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-OR, Sen. Richard Durbin, D-IL, the Global Health Council, Population Services International (PSI), PATH, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Earth Day Network, Save the Children and Procter & Gamble for a briefing to hear from three leading NGOs about what they are doing around the world, with funding from the United States and other donors, to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and educate people on how to prevent deaths from diarrhea.
Introduction: The Honorable Earl Blumenauer, U.S. Representative, 3rd District, OregonSpeakers:
- Anick Supplice, Deputy Country Representative and Director of Programs, PSI/ Haiti
- O. Massee Bateman, Director, Saving Newborn Lives Program, Save the Children
