From Afghanistan and Iraq to Southern Sudan and Timor-Leste, security sector reform (SSR) is widely seen as a key to the stabilization of fragile, failed and conflict-affected states. However, the record of donor states in implementing this model has been mixed, necessitating a re-thinking of the SSR agenda and current strategies. The Future of Security Sector Reform, a new edited volume published by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, analyzes the state of current thinking on SSR. The book’s editor, Mark Sedra, and one of its contributors will offer their perspectives on where things are heading.
