NATO SACT Seminar 2012

February 28, 2012 • 2:00 – 8:15 pm EST

CSIS served as a think tank partner with NATO for the 2012 Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) Seminar held in Washington. This year’s seminar brought together a number of high level NATO officials including Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, SACT General Stéphane Abrial, and members of the North Atlantic Council and Military Committee, with key experts from think tanks, academia, and industry. The participants engaged in a dialogue on the development of NATO’s Smart Defense Initiative, a key element of the Alliance’s Chicago Summit agenda.

Dr. Stephen Flanagan, Henry A. Kissinger Chair at CSIS, led a roundtable discussion in the afternoon on developing a compelling political narrative for the Smart Defense concept and refining NATO’s long-term force development strategy.
