The CSIS Global Health Policy Center hosted Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, who, in his role as an Ambassador for the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, shared insights from recent visits to Rwanda and Tanzania, discussed his views on the potential role that medical diplomacy can play in improving America’s global standing, and talked about the Global Network's new efforts to raise awareness of neglected tropical diseases. Secretary Thompson also shared his views on the consequences of the financial crisis on global health policy. Peter Hotez, M.D., provided a medical analysis of neglected tropical diseases and outlined a realistic strategy for the distribution of medicine in the poorest regions of the world.
