PEPFAR Reauthorization: Looking Forward

  • The Task Force on HIV/AIDS at CSIS hosted a panel discussion on the reauthorization of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Senator Russell Feingold (D-WI) and Senator John Sununu (R-NH), co-chairs of the task force, along with Rep. Donald Payne (D-NJ), provided remarks.

    Feingold and Sununu also introduced a resolution calling for increased U.S. engagement in health systems.

    The event also included a presentation by the IOM Committee for the Evaluation of PEPFAR Implementation:

    • Helen Smits, former faculty of medicine, Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique
    • Stefano Bertozzi , director of health economics, National Institutes of Health, Mexico
    • Michael Merson, founding director, Global Health Institute, Duke University

    Helene Gayle, CEO of CARE, moderated the event.
