Political Dynamics in South Africa

A discussion with Moeletsi Mbeki, Deputy Chairman South African Institute for International Affairs. This conversation will be moderated by Jennifer Cooke, Director of the CSIS Africa Program.

Moeletsi Mbeki, South African business entrepreneur and political commentator, will discuss political dynamics in South Africa and offer his perspective on the future of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) and challenges for the new Zuma administration. Mr. Mbeki began his career in journalism and, upon returning to South Africa from exile in 1990, was head of communication for the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and media consultant to the ANC. He currently chairs and directs a number of private companies and is deputy chair of the South African Institute for International Affairs.  Mr. Mbeki is also the author of the recently published Architects of Poverty: Why Africa’s Capitalism Needs Changing.
