In September 2014, the Open Working Group established by the Rio+20 Outcome document will present its proposal of the next round of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the United Nations General Assembly. Although progress has been made toward reducing extreme poverty, many areas need improvement and implementation. Join us for a conversation with UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal on the next set of MDGs. The discussion will focus on lessons learned from the MDGs, new goals to be included, prospects for a stand-alone goal on governance, and the role of private sector and philanthropy in the post-2015 development agenda.

Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal was appointed by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as the Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information in 2012. He also serves as Coordinator for Multilingualism, overseeing relevant issues throughout the Secretariat. Prior to these positions, Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal had served as Spokesman and Head of the Department for Communication and Information of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. Mr. Launsky-Tieffenthal also has signifiant experience in the Austrian Foreign Service in posts throughout Asia, North America, and the Middle East, specializing in public diplomacy and development cooperation to press and information.
