On May 8, 2007, the Americas Program of the Center for Strategic and International studies hosted Antonio Patriota, Brazilian Ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Patriota discussed Brazil’s foreign policy, including relations with the U.S. He stressed the central importance of South American integration to the Lula government and the strengthening of Mercosur, as well as Brazil’s growing ties with key countries in the developing world. Ambassador Patriota also outlined Brazil’s close relationship with the European Union and Japan and highlighted specific areas of interest in Brazil-U.S. relations, including regional stability, economics and trade, and environmental and energy issues.
