February 12, 2010 • 5:00 – 6:30 pm EST

Featuring: Andrew C. Kuchins

As the signed Turkey-Armenia Protocols await ratification in both countries’ parliaments, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of Armenia, Vigen Sargsyan, visited CSIS to discuss the prospects and potential benefits of normalization of relations between the Turkey and Armenia. Sargsyan discussed the recent timeline of events leading up the current situation and stated two key characteristics of the negotiations: no legal time frame to ratify the protocols and no preconditions to negotiation of the protocols. Noting the numerous gains each side would make through increased economic activity, he also articulated the ratification of the protocols as an opportunity for Turkey to once again make a return to the political map of the South Caucasus.
