The CSIS Africa Program hosted a conference on "Public-Private Partnerships Against HIV/AIDS in Botswana" on January 30. Part of the CSIS Task Force on Strengthening U.S. Leadership on HIV/AIDS, this half-day symposium featured Botswana Health Minister Joy Phumaphi (left), and examined emerging partnerships between the Botswana government and U.S. corporations, foundations, government agencies, NGOs, and universities to combat HIV/AIDS. Other speakers were Helene Gayle, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Linda Distlerath, Merck Corporation; Richard Marlink, Harvard AIDS Institute; Marie Lichtenberg, Humana People to People; Richard Keenlyside, CDC; and Amadou Diarra, Bristol-Myers Squibb.
