Over the last 50 years, underpinned by the US' stabilizing presence, Asia's rise has led it to become a thriving member of the global community and an engine for global economic growth and stability. However, the region is still evolving, and faces both potential internal and external challenges to progress. We must collectively invest efforts across the economic, political and security domains, to shape a peaceful and stable geopolitical environment conducive to growth. For the defence track in particular, we must step up efforts to strengthen our platforms for dialogue and cooperation, with all countries demonstrating political will to maintain regional peace and stability.
