Etienne Tshisekedi, leader of l’Union Pour la Démocratie et le Progrès Social (UDPS) will discuss his candidacy in the forthcoming presidential elections and the outlook for democratic progress in the DRC. Mvemba Dizolele, Duignan distinguished fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, and author of a forthcoming biography of former president Mobutu, will offer his thoughts on the main challenges ahead and make suggestions for effective U.S. engagement in the DRC during the run-up to the polls and beyond.
