The Role of Youth in Conflict: Alternative Suggestions

  • Wednesday, Aug 23, 2006
  • Post-conflict environments are home to large populations of youth; some who perpetuate violence, some who contribute to rebuilding, and others who opt out. This youth group represents an enormous untapped potential to help in the reconstruction process, particularly with regards to improving security.

The PCR Project has reviewed programs that have engaged youth in community safety practices; and analyzed resources on youth and community safety in post-conflict environments; interviewed program officers, social workers, and researchers to create alternative recommendations for engaging youth. Steve Seigel, lead researcher on this project, presented the PCR Project’s findings.
