Roundtable Discussion with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen

On February 1, the CSIS Europe Program and Kissinger Chair organized a private luncheon roundtable for NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and members of his cabinet with three former National Security Advisors and a distinguished former member of Congress.  The group discussed implementation of the November 2010 NATO Lisbon Summit decisions and prospective issues for the 2012 NATO summit in the United States. 

Former Assistant to President Obama for National Security Affairs, General James L. Jones (USMC, Ret), who recently rejoined the CSIS Board of Trustees, chaired the session.  He was joined by two of his predecessors, Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, CSIS Counselor and Trustee, and the Honorable Stephen J. Hadley, Senior Adviser for International Affairs at the U.S. Institute for Peace, as well as the Honorable John Tanner, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.  Heather Conley, Senior Fellow and Director of the CSIS Europe Program and Stephen Flanagan, Senior Vice President and Henry A. Kissinger Chair, also participated. 

Secretary General Rasmussen’s delegation included Ambassador Jesper Vahr, Director of the Private Office of the Secretary General, Jeff Rathke, Deputy Director of the Private Office of the Secretary General, JC Jorgensen, Private Secretary, and Oana Lungescu, NATO Spokesperson.
