Please join us for a timely conversation with the Rt. Hon. Dr. Liam Fox, Member of British Parliament and former UK Defence Secretary on the foreign policy and security implications of the UK’s upcoming June 23rd referendum on its membership in the European Union. As an active member of the “Leave” campaign, Dr. Fox believes that it would be advantageous for the UK to leave the EU. The Obama administration, however, supports a “strong ally in the United Kingdom as part of the European Union,” and hopes that the UK’s continued membership in the EU will ensure proactive European trade, defense and foreign policies. Should the UK vote to leave the EU, how would Washington’s “special” relationship with London change? Would NATO become more important to the UK? Would the UK re-examine its defense spending should there be a decision to leave the EU? Dr. Fox will offer his reflections on the upcoming referendum and its impact on the transatlantic relationship.
