On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine and the occasion of the release of Chatham House’s latest report, the “The Russian Challenge,” please join us for a timely conversation with three leading European experts on Europe’s policy approach toward Russia. As the Minsk II agreement is violated on a daily basis and the West continues to maintain its sanctions regime against Russia, it is clear that a return to “business as usual” is no longer possible. What are the current German and British views on “the Russian challenge” and what is the EU’s long-term strategy? Can the U.S. and Europe jointly develop a long-term approach towards Russia? Given that policy levers currently being utilized have failed to significantly alter Russian behavior and decision-making, what new tools can the West employ? Can the United States and the European Union maintain transatlantic policy unity in light of numerous simultaneous international crises?

This event is held in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Chatham House, and is made possible by general support to CSIS.
