SECOND TRANSATLANTIC ENERGY FORUM

The second Transatlantic Energy Forum (TEF), held at CSIS in Washington, D.C. on October 30-31, 2008, drew a distinguished group of participants reflective of the high level of official interest in the conference. Speakers and participants included senior representatives from the Icelandic Ministry of Justice and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, The Hungarian Ambassador-at-Large for the Nabucco Pipeline Project, and additional respected scholars from both sides of the Atlantic. Over the course of a day and a half, the presentations and discussions of six panels enabled participants to examine a wide array of information, analysis, and policy recommendations. Bringing together a number of U.S. and European strategic thinkers, energy and climate change experts, and policymakers, the second Transatlantic Energy Forum featured sessions devoted to:
 
• The High North region
• The prospects for a Post-Kyoto agreement
• The response to Russian energy policy
• Pipeline prospects
 
The high quality of the participants and discussions at the second TEF in Washington built upon a solid foundation from the first TEF in Paris in the May 2008. These two events will serve as the basis for a final policy memo informed by a diverse range of viewpoints on energy and climate change issues.
