Silicon Valley has long been an important source of dynamism for the U.S. economy. Yet, recent policy trends in the Americas highlight a potential shift and loss of competitiveness for the United States. For one, several countries are now intensifying efforts to attract innovators, including Canada, Chile, and Mexico. Simultaneously, recent technology trends are decreasing economic barriers and making it easier for start-ups to connect with each other and attract funding. And in the United States, outdated visa quotas continue hampering companies' efforts to attract innovative talent. What are countries doing in the Western Hemisphere to develop innovation in their domestic economies, and what could the United States learn from them? How can the United States reform its immigration system to maintain itself as a leading source of global innovation? To answer these questions and more, the CSIS Americas Program is pleased to welcome Garrett Johnson, co-founder of SendHub, a tech start-up that launched in 2011. Join us for this timely and informative discussion.

Open to the public, however, space is limited. To RSVP, please send confirmation to the Americas Program at americas@csis.org
