The increasing availability of data poses new challenges for governments and policy-makers all around the globe, since these fast-developing technologies affect how societies and democracies operate and organize. New policy making tools and frameworks seem to be necessary in order to effectively combat international cyber crime and to successfully promote and regulate future research, and innovation. The idea of data driven ‘smart governance’ addresses these concerns.
