Qubad Talabani has served as the deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) since June 2014. Prior to this he served as minister and head of the Department of Coordination and Follow-up, the KRG’s principal policy unit. Talabani has held several prominent positions involving close coordination with U.S. officials both in Washington and Iraq, including as the KRG representative to the United States from 2006 to 2012, advocating KRG positions on political and economic matters while promoting coordination and partnership. He served as a top liaison to the Coalition Provisional Authority, working closely with the U.S.-led Coalition Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Talabani was also a key negotiator in drafting the Transitional Administrative Law, the forerunner to the current Iraqi constitution. He completed his higher education in London.
