CSIS hosted a discussion with Deputy National Security Adviser Michael Froman to launch a new CSIS speaker series entitled "Trans-Pacific Partnership: Recovery through Growth in Asia and the Next Generation of Regional Trade Agreements."  This speaker series seeks to explore issues of trade as well as the overall role and influence of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region.

In light of the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings, and the interest expressed by Japan, Mexico, and Canada to join TPP, there is renewed momentum surrounding these trade negotiations.  We would be delighted if you could join us for the  discussion with Michael Froman, followed by a panel discussion, analyzing the strategic and economic importance of the Asia-Pacific as we launch our new speaker series.

Michael Froman has been Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Adviser for International Economic Affairs since 2009. His previous positions include Managing Director at Citigroup and Chief of Staff of the United States Department of the Treasury.

Matthew Goodman is a senior economic advisor at the U.S. Department of State. Before assuming his current role, he served as White House coordinator for APEC and the East Asia Summit.  Prior to that, he was director for international economics on the U.S. National Security Staff responsible for the G-20, G-8, and other international economic forums.

Ambassador Susan Schwab is a strategic advisor in Mayer Brown's Government and Global Trade practice.  Additionally she holds a professorship at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland.  She previously served as U.S. Trade Representative in the George W. Bush Administration and was influential in bringing the United States into the TPP.
