Understanding U.S. Arctic Policy Coordination: An Executive Order Considered

February 26, 2015 • 10:00 – 11:30 am EST

On January 22, the White House released an Executive Order entitled, “Enhancing Coordination of National Efforts in the Arctic” which creates a new mechanism to coordinate U.S. Arctic policy in the form of an “Arctic Executive Steering Committee,” which will “provide guidance to executive departments and agencies and enhance coordination of Federal Arctic policies across agencies and offices, and, where applicable, with State, local, and Alaska Native tribal governments.”

What is important to know about this Executive Order?  How will the Arctic Executive Steering Committee better streamline, reduce redundancies, prioritize, and appropriately resource Arctic policy in the future?

Please join us for a discussion on what the Arctic Executive Steering Committee seeks to achieve with Dr. John Holdren, Gary Rasicot, and Tommy Beaudreau, as they offer the Obama administration’s latest thinking on the execution of U.S. Arctic policy in light of the upcoming U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council, as well as recent White House decisions that relate to energy development and conservation in Alaska.
