In September 2007, in recognition of the deteriorating situation in Somalia, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed Mr. Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah of Mauritania as his Special Representative (SRSG) to the conflict. As the situation continues to worsen, the SRSG has been increasingly active in his efforts to help mediate a peace in Somalia and to strengthen the international community's and the United Nations Security Council's response. At the session, SRSG Ould-Abdallah will discuss his efforts to bring opposing parties together, U.N strategy, and his outlook on Somalia's future.
