Update on Sudan's Civil War

Universal war fatigue, increasing domestic isolation of politicized radicals, and a surge of positive external interest in peace may signal a "light at the end of the tunnel" in Sudan, said Sudanese opposition leader and former prime minister Sadiq al Mahdi at a Feb. 12 presentation at CSIS. The United States has an important role to play in mediating Sudan's 18-year civil war, and the cautious, incremental adopted by Special Envoy Sen. Danforth, holds considerable promise in moving the parties to the conflict toward a negotiated peace.
