February 26, 2015 • 10:00 – 11:00 am EST

The CSIS Pacific Partners Initiative is pleased to host an armchair discussion with His Excellency Kim Beazley ambassador of Australia to the United States and the Honorable Wendy Cutler acting deputy U.S. trade representative. The discussion will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Australia-U.S Free Trade Agreement and consider the achievements of the past decade.

Ambassador Beazley previously served as Australia’s deputy prime minister, leader of the Australian Labor Party, and leader of the opposition. He retired from politics in 2007 and was appointed Winthrop Professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Western Australia. He was later appointed chancellor of the Australian National University, a position he held until becoming ambassador in 2010.

Cutler is the highest ranking career employee in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). She joined USTR in 1988 and over the past 25 years has worked on both bilateral and multilateral issues. She was the chief U.S. negotiator for the U.S.-Korea (KORUS) Free Trade Agreement, and led the U.S. trade and investment agenda in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation grouping. Ms. Cutler is working on U.S. trade negotiations and enforcement in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
