With a series of pre-salt oil discoveries in 2007, Brazil now stands at the crossroads of what could be a major turning point for the future of its oil production. This session, hosted by the CSIS Energy and National Security Program, provided an overview of the pre-salt oil resources as well a variety of views on the proposed legal and regulatory framework.

The CSIS Energy and National Security Program hosted a discussion on the global natural gas markets. Specific topics included: the impact of shale and arctic gas on global supplies; natural gas pricing and the interaction of regional markets; and key players and the exercise of market power.

The New European Democracies Project together with the Institute for New Democracies (IND) organized an event on Kazakhstan's OSCE Chairmanship for the year 2010. The event was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, and various experts and officials participated at this international conference.
