Andreas Dracopoulos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. degree in economics. He is a director and co-president of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, an international philanthropic organization, which was established by his great uncle, the late Stavros Niarchos. Mr. Dracopoulos is a trustee of the Rockefeller University, a member of the Board of Directors of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, a member of the Board of Trustees and the International Councillors of CSIS, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics. He served as a trustee of the New York Public Library from 2003 to 2010, and he was recently appointed as an honorary trustee. In September 2011, Mr. Dracopoulos was awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix by Greece. He is also the recipient of the 2002 Odyssey Award from the Hellenic Community of Astoria, New York, in recognition of his contribution toward the promotion of Greek education. He resides in New York City.
