Benjamin Wofford Moody is a senior associate with the New Defense Approaches Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Mr. Moody retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in June 2010 after 30 years of military service. While serving as a Marine aviator, he was a weapons and tactics instructor, a depot post-production test pilot, and an operational test director for the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. He also served as a Presidential Pilot at Marine Helicopter Squadron One. Mr. Moody has accumulated approximately 3,800 flying hours in 14 different military aircraft. Among his other duties, he served as the executive assistant for Marine Corps safety and operational planner with Marine Forces Pacific and Marine Forces Central Command during the execution of Operation Enduring Freedom and the planning for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also served as the Marine attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Paris and Defense attaché at the U.S. embassies of Ghana, Togo, and Benin. Mr. Moody is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. He is a distinguished graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting. Mr. Moody is proficient in French and Spanish.
