Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Guenther has served in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 19 years. His operational billets include deployments and “at sea” time on U.S. Navy amphibious ships: in 1992 to the Pacific and Indian Oceans, including Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Middle East during the cease-fire campaign phase of Operation DESERT STORM; and in 2003 to Kuwait and Iraq for combat during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM for the march up to Baghdad. His most recent operational billet was with the reserve component of the Marine Corps in Philadelphia, PA. Supporting establishment billets include: Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC, where he supervised the transformation of young men into Marines; Marine Corps Combat Development Command, where he analyzed new equipment programs as part of the planning, programming, and budgeting process; and Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as a ground combat arms officer. His service also includes a joint duty tour at U.S. Northern Command. He conducted future planning for contingency operations and participated in the command’s preparations for and response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Later, he led the command’s planning for emergency preparedness in the National Capital Region. His areas of experience include: tactical ground combat operations; amphibious operations; the Marine Corps Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF); basic recruit training; combat systems development and fielding; planning, programming, and budgeting; joint operations contingency planning and execution; homeland defense and security; reserve forces development, training, and deployment; and field artillery tactics and operations.
Guenther earned his B.S. in management from the Pennsylvania State University, M.S. in management (defense systems analysis) from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, and M.A. in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI (distinguished graduate). He is also a graduate of U.S. Joint Forces Staff College and holds the Joint Specialty Officer qualification.
