Huasheng Zhao

  • Zhao Huasheng is a visiting fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Since 2005, he has been professor and director of the Center for Russia and Central Asia Studies, as well as director of the Center for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Studies, at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He has served as vice chairman of the Chinese Society for the Study of Sino-Russian relations since 2008. From 1989 to 1990, Mr. Zhao was a visiting scholar at the Moscow Institute of International Relations. From 1986 to 2004, he was a research fellow and director of the Department of Russia and Central Asia at Shanghai Institute for International Studies. Mr. Zhao’s main research areas are Sino-Russian relations, relations between China and Central Asia, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and he has published analytical articles in Chinese, Russian, and English. His recent books include Central Asia: Views from Washington, Moscow, and Beijing (M.E. Sharpe, 2007), coauthored with Eugene Rumer and Dmitry Trenin. Mr. Zhao holds an M.A. degree from Nanjin University in Russian literature and a B.A. from Shanghai Institute for International Studies in Russian language and literature.
