John B. Hess has been chairman of the board and CEO of Hess Corporation since 1995. Hess Corporation, with headquarters in New York City, is a global integrated energy company engaged in the exploration for and the production, purchase, transportation, and sale of crude oil and natural gas. Its exploration and production activities take place in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Azerbaijan, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Gabon, Egypt, Libya, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, and other countries. Hess Corporation owns 50 percent of the HOVENSA refinery joint venture in the U.S. Virgin Islands, has retail and energy marketing businesses on the East Coast of the United States, and an oil storage facility in St. Lucia. Mr. Hess joined the company in May 1977 and was elected a director in November 1978. He is a graduate of Harvard College (B.A., 1975) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., 1977). He is a member of the Board of Directors of Dow Chemical Company (since 2006), the National Advisory Board of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (since 1991), the Business Council (since 2003), the Trilateral Commission (since 2009), the Council on Foreign Relations (since 1984), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (since 2007), and the New York Public Library (since 2008). He is also on the boards of Harvard Business School (since 2001), Deerfield Academy (since 2004), the Wildlife Conservation Society/New York Zoo (since 1991), and Mount Sinai Hospital (since 1988). He was a member of the U.S. Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (1999–2002).
