John Griffin

  • Captain John Griffin is the U.S. Navy fellow in the CSIS International Security Program. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986 and was designated a naval aviator to fly the SH-60B SEAHAWK. Captian Griffin completed multiple deployments to the Arabian Gulf including a nine-month deployment in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He has also served at the U.S. Naval Academy and as an action officer and executive assistant on the CJCS Joint Staff J-3 Directorate. His most recent assignments were as commanding officer of VT-27 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and as navy programs manager at the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) in Athens, Greece, until July 2009. He holds master’s degrees from the University of Maryland–University College and the Naval War College.
