Stephen Benson

Stephen Benson is a retired U.S. Navy commander who participated in expeditionary warfare operations around the globe. He served as the lead expeditionary warfare analyst in the assessment branch on the Navy Staff and as the strategy officer for U.S. Naval Forces Europe where he developed the Theater Naval Engagement Plan. CDR Benson was the Navy fellow in the International Security Program at CSIS in 2000 and has been an adjunct fellow in the Russia and Eurasia Program at CSIS for the past six years. His work has focused on the Black Sea region and Central Asia. He is an independent consultant on national security to the U.S. government and has written on the topics of globalization and military force structure. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1980. CDR Benson is the founder and president of Littoral Solutions Inc.
