Tyrell A. Chamberlain

  • Colonel Ty “Boomer” Chamberlain is the U.S. Air Force Strategic Nuclear Policy fellow with the Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Colonel Chamberlain is a B-52H instructor pilot with over 2,800 hours of flight time and 134 hours of combat time. He has served in numerous flying assignments, including squadron commander, wing chief of safety, USAF Weapons School instructor, operations group executive officer, flight commander, and flight scheduler. In addition, he has served as senior executive officer to the commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, airpower strategist in the CSAF’s Strategic Studies Group, and PACOM/SOUTHCOM branch chief in HQ Air Force CHECKMATE Division. He has deployed numerous times and flown combat missions in support of Operations ALLIED FORCE and ENDURING FREEDOM. His military awards and decorations include the Air Medal and Aerial Achievement Medal. Colonel Chamberlain graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1993 with a B.S. in aeronautical engineering. He also holds master’s degrees in airpower art and science from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, Air University, Maxwell AFB, AL; operational sciences from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright Patterson AFB, OH; and aeronautical science and technology from Embry Riddle University.
