Humanitarian and development professionals increasingly recognize the crucial role private-sector companies play in recovering from disaster and conflict and emerging from poverty. Likewise, more and more companies are recognizing that there is a real business case for improving the well-being and resilience of the communities they interact with. Andrew MacLeod has been on both sides, and for the launch of his memoir, "A Life Half Lived: Surviving the World's Emergency Zones," he will demonstrate why the private sector needs to care about development, why the public sector needs to engage business, and how both can proceed. He will be joined by Amb. Kim Beazley, Australian Ambassador to the United States, and Erika Karp, CEO of Cornerstone Capital Group.
