East Asia and the Pacific

Covering every corner and aspect of the world's most populous continent, CSIS has an Asia team befitting of an Asian century.
CSIS's East Asia and Pacific portfolio includes five programs focused on specific areas with in the region— the Freeman Chair in China Studies, the Japan Chair, the Korea Chair, the Southeast Asia program and Pacific Partners Initiative — along with the region wide research of Pacific Forum.
Sub-Regions
The Freeman Chair in China Studies and other CSIS programs analyze the world’s most populous country.
The Japan Chair studies the political, economic, and security issues related to Japan and its place within Asia and the world.
The Korea Chair leads CSIS's work to advance major policy issues related to Korea at critical time in the U.S.-ROK alliance.
Providing a sustained, high-level policy focus on Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Island Countries.
CSIS has extensive expertise in the Southeast Asia region, anchored by the Southeast Asia Program and its director Ernest Z. Bower.
