The Senate has passed legislation that would pump nearly $50 billion into international programs to fight AIDS and other infectious diseases over the next five years. Sens. Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl voted for the measure, which passed 80-16 on Thursday and was sent to the House.
Earlier in the week, Feingold spoke about the dire need for U.S. assistance at an AIDS conference in Washington.
“No one disputes the urgency and seriousness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic,” he said in a speech Tuesday at the conference held by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
