DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The latest U.S. National Intelligence Estimate that said Iran had abandoned its nuclear weapons quest four years ago was greeted in the Persian Gulf Emirates with a collective sigh of relief. Accurate or not didn't seem to matter. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, on a one-day visit to Abu Dhabi, made clear U.S. bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities would be a major strategic blunder. Therefore, the war option presumably was off the table. Only Israel dissented.
