Mexico Freezes Prices on More than 150 Food Products for Six Months.

Food manufacturers promised Mexico's government on Wednesday that they would freeze prices on more than 150 food products to help families cope with rising costs.[. . .]
Sydney Weintraub, an economist with the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, said reaching an agreement with businesses could spare Mexico some of the risks that often accompany mandatory price controls – such as shortages. But he cautioned there was nothing to keep prices from skyrocketing once companies decide they can no longer afford fixed prices.
