CSIS and Chevron Set to Launch Innovative Project to Advance U.S. Leadership in International Economic and Community Development

Secretary Condoleezza Rice and General James Jones kick start initiative with discussion on the importance of development to foreign policy and national security
 
WASHINGTON, D.C.,  May 31, 2011 –The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) and Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) will announce the launch of an innovative partnership project to promote U.S. leadership in international and economic community development  on Wednesday, June 3rd, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at CSIS B1 Conference Center, 1800 K Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
 
The agenda will be as follows:

  • Announcement of “The Project on U.S. Leadership in Development” and corresponding speakers series;
  • Introductory remarks from Henrietta Fore, former USAID Administrator and CSIS Trustee, and Stephen W. Green, Chevron’s vice president for Policy, Government and Public Affairs; and,
  • A moderated discussion between former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former National Security Advisor General James L. Jones on the importance of development to  foreign policy and national security.  

 
The multi-year initiative aims to generate innovative thinking on best ways to integrate U.S. public and private sector resources and interests with non-government organizations (NGOs) and foreign governments to create sustainable partnerships. A core goal of the initiative is to develop and present actionable, bipartisan policy recommendations by 2012 for implementation by current and future Administrations.
