CSIS and Maxwell School to Form Partnership

WASHINGTON, November 6, 2013—The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University have formed a unique partnership to develop joint programs and activities.

Both CSIS and the Maxwell School will explore opportunities for collaborative efforts on research, course offerings, conferences, public outreach, and executive education.

“Our collaboration with Maxwell ushers in a new era for CSIS,” said John J. Hamre, President, CEO and Pritzker Chair at CSIS. “Maxwell is the gold standard for public affairs education.  The partnership opens up new possibilities for CSIS in a number of areas, including executive education.”

Maxwell, consistently ranked as America’s number one graduate school of public affairs, will use office space, hold classes, and conduct programs at CSIS’s new building at 1616 Rhode Island Avenue. 

“Think tanks and universities both have a vital role to play in the development of sound public policy,” said James Steinberg, Dean of the Maxwell School and University Professor of Social Science, International Affairs, and Law.  “They both incubate ideas and talent on which our government and institutions depend.  We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with an institution as prestigious and dynamic as CSIS on this new endeavor.”
