CSIS Strategic Technologies Program Launches New Project on "Securing the Internet of Things"

WASHINGTON, October 20, 2014—The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) announces “Securing the Internet of Things,” a project to examine and identify policy challenges and solutions for the emerging structure of internet-enabled, interconnected embedded computing devices and sensors.

This year-long project, made possible by support from Symantec Corporation, aims to foster dialogue and debate around benefits and policy challenges created by the growth of embedded and interconnected computing devices. The project will investigate the size, scope, and opportunities provided by the internet of things; implications for privacy and identity; security challenges that will accompany its growth; and implications for policy.

Hosted at CSIS’ headquarters in Washington, D.C., events, roundtable discussions and analysis papers will further explore securing the internet of things, the divide between public domain and privacy in the wake of increasing amounts of data, autonomous devices and identity, and scoping the resulting opportunities and challenges of the expanding internet of things.
