Kimberly Flowers Joins CSIS as Director of the Global Food Security Project

WASHINGTON, April 24, 2015 – The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that Kimberly Flowers has joined the center as the director of its Global Food Security Project.

Prior to her position at CSIS, Ms. Flowers was the communications director for Fintrac, an international development company focusing on hunger eradication and poverty alleviation through agricultural solutions. From 2005 to 2011, Ms. Flowers worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) where she led strategic communications for Feed the Future, the U.S. government’s global hunger and nutrition initiative. Her work at USAID also featured postings in Ethiopia, Jamaica, and Haiti as a development, outreach, and communications officer. Ms. Flowers began her career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria.

“I am delighted to welcome Kimberly to the center,” said John J. Hamre, CSIS President, CEO, and Pritzker Chair. “Food is one of the earth’s most important natural resources and plays an increasingly important role in international affairs. I am glad that CSIS will continue to lead research and discussion on this vital topic.”

The CSIS Global Food Security Project will examine and highlight the impact of food security on US strategic global interests. The project will evaluate current efforts and provide long-term, strategic guidance to policy makers to ensure US foreign assistance programs are efficient, effective, and sustainable.
