New CSIS Headquarters Achieves LEED Platinum Status: Becomes only 5th Washington Building to gain Platinum Award

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2014 – The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that its new headquarters on 1616 Rhode Island Avenue has achieved LEED Platinum status as an environmentally friendly structure. It is only the fifth building in Washington D.C. to achieve this accolade, and the only think tank in the district whose headquarters meet this environmental standard.

“With a young and dynamic staff, we knew we had to embrace environmentally sustainable goals for our new building,” said John Hamre, CSIS CEO, president, and Pritzker Chair. “It also affords us the most efficient building for cost-efficient ongoing operations. This building matches the high standards we at CSIS hold ourselves to in our daily work.”

The building received a passing grade in 54 out of 54 criteria needed to achieve LEED Platinum status and features a green roof, state-of-the-art heating and cooling systems, and the very latest in efficient lighting and insulation.
