Sharon Squassoni Joins CSIS as Proliferation Prevention Program Director

WASHINGTON, February 16, 2010 – The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that Sharon Squassoni, a former senior expert on Weapons of Mass Destruction for the Congressional Research Service, has joined CSIS as a senior fellow and as director of the CSIS Proliferation Prevention Program.

“I am pleased that Sharon Squassoni has joined the Center to lead our efforts in the critical field of nonproliferation,” said CSIS President and CEO, John J. Hamre.  “For several decades, Sharon has demonstrated a keen ability to provide expert analysis in the areas of nonproliferation, arms control and national security.”

Prior to joining CSIS, Ms. Squassoni was a senior scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C.. From 2002 to 2007, Ms. Squassoni advised Congress as the Congressional Research Service expert. Her other government service includes nearly a decade at the U.S. State Department and the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.  Ms. Squassoni has published widely and is a frequent commentator for U.S. and international media outlets. She holds a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National War College.
