Americas Program: Focus on the Caribbean

Projects and analysis for: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago
Countries of the Caribbean have long played an important role in the United States’ policies toward the Western Hemisphere. Collectively the region is one of the U.S.' biggest and most reliable trading partners. While today U.S.-Cuban relations tend to dominate attention focused on the region, there are many other critical issues facing both the U.S. and Caribbean nations. Combating narcotics trafficking and other forms of transnational crime, immigration reform, democratic institution building in places such as Haiti, and coordination of disaster preparedness are just a few of the challenges that the United States and its Caribbean neighbors must address together. The CSIS Americas Program analyzes in depth these issues and more as it seeks to promote greater understanding of the development and future of the Caribbean.
