Higher Education Initiative

The CSIS Global Strategy Institute's higher education initiative draws on the team of CSIS experts to connect them with college and university groups from across the country. The goal is to explore the future over the present, the far over the near, the unfamiliar over the familiar, the interconnected over the segmented. It is an ambitious effort to challenge future leaders from diverse disciplines to think about the key trends shaping their world.
The demand for such programs—especially those that skillfully combine traditional classroom learning with experiential learning—is high for a number of important reasons:
- The many urgent issues relevant to U.S. international engagement in the post-9/11 period, including the security environment and the changing political risk spectrum;
- The complex forces at work in many key countries (China, Russia, India, and Brazil, among others) and regions around the world;
- The many uncertainties associated with the global economy; and
- The need for greater understanding of the dynamics of the U.S. government and the formulation and implementation of U.S. national security strategies and foreign policies.
The Global Strategy Institute, building on the distinguished group of experts across CSIS, has developed differentiated programs to meet the specific needs and requirements of college and university groups. Coast to coast, GSI has built a track record of cooperation with a number of colleges and universities from the United States and abroad. Programs have been developed with Penn State University Schreyer Honors College, the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech, Southeast Missouri State University, and the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University.
