From Science to Policy: Managing Climate Change

PROJECT OVERVIEW
In December 2008, CSIS launched an initiative to explore how the United States can lead a global effort tin better understanding climate change and better informing policymakers on response and mitigation.
Climate change will have serious, pervasive, and unavoidable effects on economic and national security. Managing these consequences and mitigating them when possible, is a new and difficult task for governments
American leadership can create the solutions needed for this. Improving our ability to collect, aggregate, and share accurate data and make it broadly accessible to policymakers, academics, the private sector, and the public at large would significantly improve our capabilities for responding to climate change.
This project looks at governance structures and informational architecture needed to respond more effectively to climate change. It will build on the recommendations of the CSIS Commission on Smart Power for America and the CSIS Working Group on Earth Observations and Global Change calling on the United States to take a leadership role in addressing climate change and energy security by helping to establish a global consensus and developing innovative solutions.
