Korea Foundation Fellowship

The 2014 Korea Foundation Resident Fellowship is now closed.

In partnership with the Seoul-based Korea Foundation, Pacific Forum CSIS announces a new resident and nonresident fellowship beginning in 2014. Exclusively for Korean nationals, the Korea Foundation Fellowship is to assist graduate and Ph.D. students obtain research and professional experience in one of the world’s leading foreign policy and security studies think tanks. Fellows will have the opportunity to meet and learn from globally recognized academic, business, government, and military leaders, as well as leading policy experts, to help shape their thinking about the critical security challenges faced by Korea, and the larger Asia-Pacific region. Fellows will also connect with and build their peer networks with their counterparts from across the region. We encourage those who meet the following criteria to apply:

  • Korea national
  • Current graduate or Ph.D. student researching foreign policy, international relations, political science or a related field (or within one year of graduation)
  • Minimum TOEIC score 850, TOEFL score 100 (IBT score)/250 (CBT), TEPS score 750 (English proficiency test score not required if you have studied at a university in the US, UK, or other English speaking country)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

Resident Fellowship

Pacific Forum CSIS will select candidate(s) to be a resident fellow at Pacific Forum CSIS' Honolulu office for six months. Fellows will undertake a self-directed research project under the guidance of Pacific Forum senior staff and be active participants in the Pacific Forum Young Leaders Program.

Resident fellows will receive a stipend of $2,000 a month, roundtrip airfare to Honolulu, and travel insurance during the fellowship period.

To apply for the resident fellowship, please submit the following materials in pdf format to Korea Foundation Senior Program Officer Seayoun Lee via e-mail at globalintern@kf.or.kr. All materials must be written in English. Any statement in your application that is found to be false will be grounds for disqualification.

  • Application form (Korea Foundation website)
  • Statement of purpose (explaining why you are interested in this fellowship)
  • Research proposal, outlining what foreign policy or security-related question you plan to research while at Pacific Forum and what your expected outcomes will be (Abstract max. 250 words, proposal max. 1,500 words)
  • Letter of Recommendation from an academic advisor at university
  • Certificate of enrollment or graduation from your university
  • All transcripts including undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D.
  • English test score (TOEIC, TOEFL, TEPS, etc.) within one year after expiration

Original copy of recommendation letter must be sealed with a signature and submitted to the address below with a copy of the application form.

Non-resident Fellowship

Pacific Forum CSIS will also select non-resident fellows to attend two Pacific Forum CSIS conferences in 2014 as part of the Young Leaders Program.

The non-resident fellowship will run from the end of January 2014 to the end of August 2014.
